Every retail barcode number ends in a check digit — a single digit calculated from the others that lets scanners and systems catch typos and misreads. This GTIN validator works out the correct check digit using the standard GS1 mod-10 rule and compares it to the last digit you entered, telling you instantly whether the number is valid. It handles UPC-A (12), EAN-13 (13), EAN-8 (8) and GTIN-14 (14).
Marketplaces like Amazon and eBay reject listings with an invalid GTIN, and a wrong check digit means a barcode won't scan on the shelf. Checking numbers before you import a catalogue or print labels saves rejected products and reprints. Note: a valid check digit means the number is well-formed, not that it's registered to your brand — that requires a licensed GS1 number.
