Every SSD ships with a TBW rating — Terabytes Written, the amount of data the manufacturer warrants it can absorb before the flash wears out. A typical 1TB consumer drive is rated around 600TBW. On its own that number means nothing; divided by what you actually write in a day, it turns into an answer. This calculator does that division both ways: forwards from your usage, or backwards from the wear percentage in your drive's own SMART data.
People write far less than they think. Ordinary desktop use is 10–30 GB a day — browser cache, updates, temp files. At 30 GB a day, a 600TBW drive lasts about 54 years. You will replace the whole computer several times first, and in practice a consumer SSD is far more likely to die from a controller failure or a firmware bug than from worn-out flash. The workloads where TBW genuinely matters are 4K video editing (500 GB+ a day), busy database servers, and chia-style plotting — which is exactly why this tool tells you plainly when the answer is "irrelevant for you".
Worth saying clearly: hitting 100% of your TBW does not mean the drive stops. It means the warranty is over. Endurance testing has repeatedly pushed consumer drives to several times their rating before failure, and the SMART "percentage used" counter happily climbs past 100. What actually changes near the end of flash life is that the drive may switch to read-only to protect your data — which is a graceful ending, not a sudden one. Keep backups because any drive can fail tomorrow, not because the counter reached a number.
