Free container & pallet loading calculator

This container loading calculator estimates how many cartons fit in a shipping container or on a pallet — the number that drives your freight cost per unit. It divides each internal dimension by the matching box dimension, rounds down, and multiplies to get a clean stacked count, testing box orientations to find the best simple fit. Presets cover 20ft and 40ft containers and a standard pallet, or enter custom internal sizes.

Loading in the real world

This is an ideal grid estimate; real loads lose a little to pillars, door recesses, pallet overhang and weight limits, so treat it as an upper bound. Mixing orientations and rotating layers by hand can sometimes beat a single grid — but a clean stack is faster to load and unload.

How many boxes fit?
Each container dimension ÷ box dimension, rounded down, multiplied — best orientation.
20ft vs 40ft?
~33 m³ vs ~67 m³ of internal space. Usable volume is a little less when loaded.
